After years of guided fishing with our friends at Blackfoot River Outfitters in Montana, my fishing comrade Rick and I decided to purchase an NRS Slipstream 129 raft to explore trout-rich streams closer to our homes in Idaho. Who would have thought that rowing and putting your passengers on trout would rival being a passenger for good times? Every trip we made saw improvement in our oar skills and our fish counts. As an added bonus, we found the Blackfoot River Outfitters raft rowing tips videos on YouTube!
The quality/price ratio for this product is impressive. It offers guide level features and robustness. This raft is ready for big water (Clark Fork/Alberton Gorge, Kootenai River MT and ID) and small. It is very responsive to oar input. We are accustomed to having our fly fishing gear caught on guide boats, but have yet to see that happen on our raft (note, see anchor swap passage below).
Along with the raft package we purchased two extra rod holders, a spare oar and a 13’ utility trailer for hauling. We’ve added some dry storage and purchased reasonable safety equipment for state regulations and common sense.
Showing we’re not total fan boys and objective, going forward we may need to change out the anchor (a line eater). The anchor pulley system is frustrating and requires adjustment every other trip. In reality, a small price to pay for such a quality product.
Overall, this raft will hold it's own against products twice as expensive.
