Georgetown Lake Fishing Report

Conditions At-a-glance

Our Report

Tip of the Week Focus your efforts on the sun-baked mud flats along the northern and western banks, where early-season trout seek out the warmer water columns. Work the transition zones where shallow shelves drop off into the deeper, green weed beds. Keep an eye on the wind as well wind pushes food across the lake, turning the windward shorelines and points into major feeding zones.

***Open third Saturday in May through March 31, except for the South and East shoreline area which is only open July 1 through March 31. South and East shoreline areas described as follows: all waters from the shore or within 100 yards of shore in the area extending from a point 200 yards west of Lakeside at Georgetown Marina (along the shore, including all of Stuart Mill Bay)***

7 Day Outlook Up at Georgetown, expect a cold wintry weekend. Highs will be in the 40’s and 50’s with the possibility of snow. Entering the beginning of the week it will continue to be winter at Georgetown with cold temps and rain and snow.

Best Techniques Suspending flies under an indicator remains the top producer. Suspend a balanced leech or chironomid, letting the surface chop provide all the movement. If the wind creates an aggressive wave roll, pivot to an intermediate sinking line and strip a woolly bugger or damselfly nymph over the drop-offs.

About This Water

Nestled in the Pintlar Mountains near Philipsburg, Montana. Sight fishing far and fine is our goal with dry fly casts to 50'+ plus to cruising fish. When the fish are being snooty we'll pitch and strip olive buggers. If you’ve fished the flats for bonefish before, you get the picture.
