Hoot owl restrictions (prohibits angling between 2 PM to midnight) are in effect for the Upper Clark Fork River - from theClark Fork’s origin at the confluence of Warm Springs Creek and Silver Bow Creek to the mouth of Flint Creek starting July 22.
Tip of the Week The Clark Fork is still fishing very well with the warmer temps. Trout are stacked tight along the bank edges, undercut grassy margins, deep eddy and riffles. Avoid the slow, warm mid-river flats and focus strictly on shaded bank margins and faster current sections. Fishing in the morning and the evenings are the best times to go. Keep an eye on the water temps in the afternoon as it is starting to get hot! Keep an eye out for new trees with the storm we had rolled through!
***There are reports of a new tree down between Turah and Sha-Ron about half a mile above the confluence of Clark Fork and Blackfoot. Call the shop for more details 406.542.7411***

Best Techniques Tie on a foam terrestrial like a Chubby Chernobyl, More or Less Hopper, or Foam Beetle and trail a nymph like a Frenchie, Spanish Bullet, or Perdigon 3 to 4 feet underneath. If you spot rising snouts in the early morning foam lines, drop down to a single #16–#18 Flying Ant or subtle Beetle pattern.

From a boat - 7.5' 3x-4x. Wading step it up to 9'
3X, 4X and 5X will cover 90% of our fishing applications. 1-2X is great for punching out large, wind resistant dries in high dirty water. Don't drop lower than 10lb for streamers (we recommend a 4-5' 10lb tapered leader with a sink tip fly line). Leave the 6X at home.
The 9' 5WT is our do it all rod. Fast action rods will be best for most of our fishing; foam dries, dry-dropper fishing and nymphing. A fast action 6WT will be useful for large foam dries, small streamers, heavy nymph rigs and punching bugs through the afternoon wind. Bring a 7WT if you plan to fish large articulated streamers.
