This Fly Tying 201 will take place 4/4, 4/6, 4/11 and 4/13.

Our Fly Tying 201 Class is intended to build on the skills learned in our Fly Tying Basics Class.  We will cover 4 new fly patterns that require new materials and more advanced material handling skills.  We aim to give you the confidence and skills necessary to whip up a few dozen flies that you will actually fish! Along the way, we hope to inspire a passion to create your own flies and teach you a little something about how we approach flies and fly fishing.  Throughout the class, we will tie several flies proven to work in our home waters around Missoula: The Blackfoot, Bitterroot, Clark Fork, and Rock Creek.

All materials and tools will be provided.  You are welcome to bring your own vise and tools if you have them.  The class is capped at 6 participants to allow for individualized instruction.

Dates: 4/4, 4/6, 4/11 and 4/13

Duration: 2 hours per session / 8 hours total

Hours: 6:00pm-8:00pm

Our fly tying instructor, Jack Brown, has been tying flies since he was 12 years old.  Growing up spin-fishing for bass and panfish in Minnesota and Wisconsin, when Jack found fly fishing, he was immediately captivated by this new form of angling.  Soon he was catching fish using his own flies rather than a Buzz Lightyear pole and meal worms.  The rest is history.  His approach to fly tying is centered around a less-is-more mentality.  Flies are meant to be fished and sometimes lost, so quick and easy ties are the focus.  With that being said, fly tying should be fun and creative!
