Stoneflies

Skwalas
Our first major hatch of the year, and a local favorite that has gained national renown. Skwala stoneflies emerge in the spring and are devoured by hungry trout looking for an early calorie boost before runoff.
Timing: March-April
Size: #10-12

Salmonflies
Possibly the most well known hatch in all of fly fishing. Salmonflies are enormous stoneflies that get a lot of attention from anglers, and trout, in Western Montana. It can also be the trickiest to hit just right. These bugs are so large that fish can gorge themselves to the point they stop eating, even when the hatch is still in full swing!
Timing: June
Size: #4-8
