Why Agua Boa Amazon Lodge
The Amazon River basin is a big deal, boasting the largest drainage and highest freshwater biodiversity in the world. The Agua Boa River is one of four in Brazil reserved for single barbless hooks and catch-and-release only. Flowing clear and low during the dry season, it’s been described as “the most exciting, unique fishing location on the planet.” Even in high water conditions, the fishing is phenomenal.
The Fishing
Sight cast to cruising peacock bass (Tucunaré) and elusive arowana in crystal clear waters. The dry season ensures quality fishing conditions, as seen in our 2023 trips with dozens of catches on surface poppers and sliders. High water in March 2022 didn’t deter us; it enhanced the adventure. Armed with machetes and chainsaws, we fished lagoons and creeks, landing hyper-aggressive peacocks.
Each of the 7 guides has a dedicated beat, offering fresh experiences daily. With prop and jet outboards, you’ll explore about a hundred miles of river. Though there’s a language barrier, most guides speak “angler English” and are incredibly hardworking and knowledgeable.
Bring your 8-9wt rods for peacocks and arowana, 10-11wt for arapaima, and 5-6wts for pacu. With 10 different species to catch, Agua Boa is an angler’s paradise.
Accommodations and Dining
Enjoy riverside cabañas with comfortable beds and daily laundry service. The lodge features a dining room, bar, game room with snooker, ping pong, darts, and more, plus a DVD player, Wi-Fi, and satellite TV. Relax on the porch, swim in the pool, or play soccer.
Breakfast offers hot and cold dishes, breads, pastries, fruit, and coffee. Lunch can be a cooked meal at the lodge or a packed lunch for the river. Dinner is a three-course meal with wine, featuring freshly prepared meat and fish dishes.
BRO’s Personal Notes
Agua Boa Lodge is for anglers. It’s remote, with the closest town 5 hours away by boat. You don’t need to be an expert fly angler; the fishing is so good you might pace yourself, sometimes fishing only half days.
The staff and guides are exceptional, from greeting you with champagne to ensuring your trip is memorable. Agua Boa Lodge offers the best fishing experience we’ve had. If you’ve considered a remote fly fishing adventure but worried about reality not matching the ads, this hosted trip is for you. We’ll handle the arrangements and ensure every participant enjoys their stay to the fullest!
