Join us for an all-inclusive 4-night 3-day hosted trip in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, where we target smallmouth bass and muskie on the fly.
The 430 mile long Wisconsin River is a tributary of the Mississippi River flowing south through the Northwoods and Driftless Area of Wisconsin. Scientists believe the lower section of the Wisconsin River actually formed before the upper section and that the upper section flowed the opposite direction at some point. The river is home to smallmouth bass and muskie, among other native midwest fish species.
A typical day will start with breakfast at our beautiful, comfortable, and peaceful Northwoods cabin, from which we will depart to meet our good friends and guides from Great Northern Fly Fishing. We will be greeted by friendly, expert guides with drift boats or rafts to embark down one of many drainages that make up the Upper Wisconsin River. We will target smallmouth and muskie on the fly. All gear, tackle, and shore lunches are provided! After a day on the scenic fish-filled waters, we will settle in at a famous local supper club for cocktails and classic Wisconsin-style dinners.
We are pretty sure smallmouth bass and muskie were designed and put on this earth to be caught with fly rods.
Muskie are the apex predator in the Upper Wisconsin River drainage. Attacking flies as long as your forearm and reaching lengths of up to 48 inches (thats 4 feet!) long, all it takes is one glimpse of the “water wolf” to begin a lifelong obsession.
Smallmouth bass are very territorial and are voracious feeders. We will target the smallmouth with streamers and topwater flies. Smallmouth occupy the same water as muskie so, occasionally, you’ll see a smallmouth that has been “muskie bitten”, which is a site to see and a reminder that smallmouth have to fight pretty hard to escape the monsters that hunt them.
