Cape Cod Striper and False Albacore
Join Josh McKown, Manager at our shop, Flint Creek Outdoors in Philipsburg, Montana, for an all-inclusive 4 night 3 day fly-fishing trip on the flats of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Cape Cod was formed by the retreat of the Laurentide ice sheet near the end of the Pleistocene era and erosion and sediment deposition over the thousands of years that have followed. Vikings fished here when they landed on our shores. The Wampanoag Native American People, who were known conservationists and stewards of the land, and who helped the Europeans survive settlement (who then went on to fish the area), fished and farmed for generations on the Cape. And fly anglers have a history here, too. Striped bass and false albacore are formidable game on the fly rod and the waters of the Cape are loaded with both species.
Stripers do it all: bulldogging, jumping, running; and like other bass-types they are voracious feeders. The striper we will see can range between 2 and 30lbs!
False albacore feed at something like 60mph. Just imagine: backing zipping off the reel as the albie goes berserk on the other end. They will likely range between 2 and 15lbs.
Our trip partner and friend, Captain Tony Biski of Chatham, a US Coast Guard master with decades of experience in the waters of the Cape and the Islands, will lead us on the water. Whether we’re wading the flats for cruising fish or fishing the shoals and rips for bass and blues he’ll know exactly where to go and what to do to get us on fish. He’s very professional and knowledgeable and we’re happy to have secured his services.
Aside from explosive saltwater fly fishing action, we will sit down in the evenings to amazing dishes from a well-known local haunt. You’ll want to try the seafood, it’s truly amazing; but they have dreamt up some pretty great land-food dishes, too. And did we mention this is all included in the trip cost? Along with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages? Try a “cape codder” cocktail or whatever you’d like. It’s all included!
Yes, this trip is indeed all-inclusive. All you need to do is get yourself to the Cape Cod home we’ve rented where each angler can spread out in their own room. A fully stocked fridge and snacks will be provided at the house. We will also provide coffee in the mornings and breakfast and lunch from a local cafe on the water.
