Meet Our Manager, Matthew Churchman
Lucky for us, there aren’t many trout in Kansas, but there is beer a plenty. We met Matthew Churchman while having a cold one with friends down at The Depot restaurant about a year ago and virtually hired him on the spot.
Following a two decade long search, Matthew finally realized ‘trout’ and ‘Kansas’ didn’t really fit in the same sentence. He settled for the trout waters near our new fly shop in Philipsburg, Montana. After earning a business degree and a stint helping to manage his family’s retail business, Matthew’s interest in cold-water fisheries conservation led to another degree—this time in environmental studies. He pursued this career both on a salmon project in the unspoiled waters of Alaska and studying the world-record brown trout of the Arkansas tailwaters. It is rumored that he exploited the information gleaned from these studies with his fly rod between shifts.
Working with us as manager of Flint Creek Outdoors and as a guide leading wade fishing trips to the area streams, Matthew can now apply both his business and fisheries experience. He contends product research has never been this much fun. His wife, Laura, just hopes we keep him employed and out of school.
